it’s time for the Grand Worldwide World Premier of
the film ”Åland Calling”, 
our most gifted Documentary Film Maker Tiina Mäkinen’s unsurpassed masterpiece.
on Zoom!

The International World Premier will be administrated by
the Swedish Finn Historical Society of Seattle, Washington, USA, 
where Director Kimberly ”Kim” Jacobs will coordinate
the ”Åland Coffee Hour”
Documentary Film Maker Tiina Mäkinen will be present all evening
at the Åland Islands Emigrant Institute.

The Documentary Film "Åland Calling" 

will be announced as soon as we have word of it!

 

On Wednesday, March 15, at 6.45 pm local time 
the unsurpassed film “Åland Calling”
by Documentary Film Maker Tiina Mäkinen, our most gifted Society member,
will be released at our local cinema Bio Savoy in Mariehamn
for the very first time in history!

The release will take place at the Grand Opening Day of this year’s
Vera Documentary Film Festival
(please see: www.verafilmfestival.ax ).

For all those who participated – as well as for those who did not participate – we’d like to remind you of
the Åland Islands Emigrant Institute’s Grand Event
”Åland Calling: Come Home to Your Roots, Share and Connect with Us”
to celebrate the Centennial of the Åland Islands Autonomy
– in the Middle of the Baltic –
on 15-20 August 2022 

Throughout the whole week Documentary Film Maker Tiina Mäkinen was there,
following every step that was taken, documenting every word that was said.
Now she will release her film for the world to see what took place at our
International Centennial Festivity

 

In some time, we plan to show the film digitally for everyone to be able to see it.

Hjördis M. Sundblom

The Åland Island born Hjördis M. Sundblom emigrated to America 17 years of age. She worked in private families among the high society. Later she studied and was offered a job in the Physical Department at St. Luke/Roosevelt Hospital in New York. Her America years offered many experiences and her book contains not only her personal memories but is also richly illustrated. Hjördis Sundblom’s long journey lasted 52 years. She returned to the Aland Islands in 1987.
